In v7.1 a large number of coordinate conversions are producing incorrect results.
Problem:
A large number of coordinate conversions are producing incorrect results. This issue affects all coordinate systems found on this list.
Environment:
Oasis montaj v7.1, Target v7.1, Target for ArcGIS 3.1, Geochemistry for ArcGIS 1.0
Solution:
A Critical Service Pack is available. Geosoft strongly recommends that this service pack be applied. The Service Pack is available for download online by going to Help > Check for updates or from the Geosoft Software Updates web page. Once the Service Pack has been installed, your Geosoft software will need to be restarted for the update to take effect.
Grids and Geosoft databases (*.gdb files) that were assigned a coordinate system from the affected list before applying this Critical Service Pack will be georeferenced incorrectly. In this case, the coordinate system should be re-assigned once the Critical Service Pack is available. Note that if the projection was assigned in a pre-v7.1 installation, (pre-v3.1 for Extensions for ArcGIS) then that item's projection will not be affected by this projection issue even if that item was used in the v7.1 installation (v3.1 for Extensions for ArcGIS).
The service pack will not change the version number which appears in the splash screen or the Help > About dialog window in Target for ArcGIS and Geochemistry for ArcGIS.
Root Cause:
In version 7.1 a tool was added which automatically generates coordinate system tables based on the most recent European Petroleum Survey Group coordinate database. The benefit of automatic generation is that Geosoft's programs are more comprehensive and responsive to maintenance of EPSG coordinate base tables.
Unfortunately, there was an error in the conversion. Any longitude or latitude values in the EPSG tables (such as central meridians, base latitudes, standard parallels, etc.) that were expressed using sexidecimal notation (deg.mmssss) and had both a non-zero minute (mm) value and had zero seconds (ssss=0000) were converted incorrectly.
