Upgrading to v7.0 Oasis montaj and Target can take a long time.
Symptom/Problem:
Several users have reported that the upgrade to v7.0 has taken a number of hours to complete. The installation appears to be hung up at times.
Environment:
Upgrading from v6.* to v7.0 of Oasis montaj or Target.
Resolution:
Option 1
After starting an install on a system where this takes so long, please follow the steps below:
1. Open your Task Manager (right-click on the Windows Taskbar).
2. Go to the Processes tab and sort them according to CPU by clicking on the column header.
3. The setup.exe (might be different if the install has been renamed) will come out on top with 98-99% to 100% usage.
4. Right click on this process (setup.exe) and choose Set Priority > Low.
Your installation then should take a significantly shorter period of time.
Option 2
Alternatively, you can try installing all of the components separately before installing v7.0. The steps to do this include the following:
1. Park your existing v6.4.* license (Start > All Programs > Geosoft > Oasis montaj (or Target) > License > Park).
2. Uninstall v6.4.* (Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs).
3. When you uninstall v6.4.*, you should ensure that you delete the C:\Program Files\Geosoft\Oasis Montaj (or Target) directory, remembering to remove any custom files that you may have remaining (these will be stored in this directory after the uninstall).
4. From the CD, install Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 (D:\WindowsInstaller)
5. From the CD, install Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP1 (D:\DotNet)
6. From the CD, install Direct X (D:\DirectX\DXSETUP.exe)
7. From the CD, install ArcEngine (D:\ArcEngine\Setup.exe)
8. From the CD, install OM v7.0 (D:\setup.exe)
9. Set up your license for OM 7.0 by going to Start > All Programs > Geosoft > Oasis montaj (or Target) > License > Setup.
Root Cause:
Users with a single core computer (1 CPU), the installation may take an especially long time. Option 1 addresses this issue.
The installation of ArcEngine v9.2, DirectX v9.0, Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP1, and Windows Installer v3.1 are all required installs, before the installation of v7.0 takes place. These required components will only be installed on your first installation of 7.0. ArcEngine especially will take a long time to install. You cannot cancel these installs, and the system may appear to be hung up, but it is still installing.
