How To: Uninstall a Geosoft product which will not uninstall using the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel

Problem/Symptom:
Geosoft software package will not uninstall using the Add/Remove Program in the Control Panel. The uninstall fails.


Environment:
The following resolution applies to all Geosoft software packages, free Plug-Ins and Viewers across all versions.


Resolution

NOTE: this FAQ article uses a Microsoft utility called Windows Installer CleanUp Utility which is available for download on their Help and Support page at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility is used to uninstall software packages installed using the InstallShield Program. InstallShield is an application Geosoft uses to install all of our products in Windows Operating Systems.


Instructions to uninstall Oasis montaj using Window Install CleanUp:

1. Park your Geosoft license by going to File > License > Park (inside the software), or by going to Start > All Programs > Geosoft > Oasis Montaj > License > Park (with the software closed). If you cannot park (blocked by firewall, etc), please visit the following link: http://www.geosoft.com/support/faq/2008/02/im-getting-error-messages-when.asp. If you still cannot park the license, contact Geosoft Technical Support to reset it for you.

2. Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.

3. Once installed, run this utility by going to: Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up.

4. Locate Geosoft Oasis montaj on the program list - select it and press [Remove].

5. Delete the Oasis montaj folder in the Geosoft directory under C:\Program Files\Geosoft.

6. Open your Registry Editor by going to: Start > Run; type in "regedit" and click [OK].

7. Use the explorer in the left pane of the Registry Editor to locate the HKEY_Local_Machine | Software | Geosoft | Oasis montaj registry folder.

8. Delete the entire "Oasis montaj" folder from this directory (right-click on the folder and chose "delete").


Instructions to uninstall Target using Window Install CleanUp:

1. Park your Geosoft license by going to File > License > Park (inside the software), or by going to Start > All Programs > Geosoft > Target > License > Park (with the software closed). If you cannot park (blocked by firewall, etc), please visit the following link: http://www.geosoft.com/support/faq/2008/02/im-getting-error-messages-when.asp. If you still cannot park the license, contact Geosoft Technical Support to reset it for you.

2. Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.

3. Once installed, run this utility by going to: Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up.

4. Locate Geosoft Target on the program list - select it and press [Remove].

5. Delete the Target folder in the Geosoft directory under C:\Program Files\Geosoft.

6. Open your Registry Editor by going to: Start > Run; type in "regedit" and click [OK].

7. Use the explorer in the left pane of the Registry Editor to locate the HKEY_Local_Machine | Software | Geosoft | Target registry folder.

8. Delete the entire "Target" folder from this directory (right-click on the folder and chose "delete").


Instructions to uninstall Target for ArcGIS (TFA) using Window Install CleanUp:

1. Park your Geosoft license by going to File > License > Park (inside the software), or by going to Start > All Programs > Geosoft > Target for ArcGIS > License > Park (with the software closed). If you cannot park (blocked by firewall, etc), please visit the following link: http://www.geosoft.com/support/faq/2008/02/im-getting-error-messages-when.asp. If you still cannot park the license, contact Geosoft Technical Support to reset it for you.

2. Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.

3. Once installed, run this utility by going to: Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up.

4. Locate Geosoft Extensions for ArcGIS on the program list - select it and press [Remove].

5. Delete the ArcGIS folder in the Geosoft directory under C:\Program Files\Geosoft.

6. Open your Registry Editor by going to: Start > Run; type in "regedit" and click [OK].

7. Use the explorer in the left pane of the Registry Editor to locate the HKEY_Local_Machine | Software | Geosoft | ArcGIS.

8. Delete the entire "ArcGIS" folder from this directory (right-click on the folder and chose "delete").
