How To: Set the projection of map, after it has been created

|

Problem/Symptom:
Is there a way to project a map, after the map has already been created? It is in projected coordinates, but that information does not appear at the bottom of the Oasis Montaj screen (it says unknown). I don't want to have to re-create the map from the database and start all over again.

Environment:
This resolution applies to all versions of Oasis Montaj and Target

Resolution:
1) Use the Map View Mode button from the Map Tools Bar:

mapviewmode.jpg

Or the View/Group Manager Tool, to select/highlight the Data View on your map.

2) Right-click on the map, and in the context menu choose View Projection. You can also run setmvwpj.gx directly on the map (GX > Run GX).

3) Proceed to set the projection of your map, and click OK to finish.

4) Once complete, your map will be projected, and you can export the map and the projection is stored.

5) You can always go back and use the View Projection to change the projection information of the map. You cannot use this function to re-project your map (e.g. to transform coordinates from projected XY to geographic). This would need to be done in the GDB or GRD prior to map creation.
