How To: Plot a 2D polygon PLY file to a 3D map

|

Problem/Symptom:
I want to add a polygon PLY file to a 3D map, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do this. I've tried Draw from PLY file, but that doesn't work.

Environment:
This resolution applies to all versions of Oasis Montaj and Target, however, this particular resolution applies to Oasis Montaj and Target v7.0.

Resolution:

1) Open the 3D Viewer for your 3D Map.

2) Right-click in the 3D Viewer and choose 'Add New Drawing Plane'. Call it Surface1 (for example), and give it a plane elevation. Click OK.

3) Right-click again in the 3D Viewer and choose 'Set Default Drawing Plane'. Choose Surface 1.

4) Now go to Map Tools > Draw from PLY file. Make sure to set the 'Map view' to the current 3D view.

This process can be used to add virtually anything to this plane in a 3D Map. First, create the surface, then set it as the default drawing plane. You can then add grids, contours, ply files, etc to the 3D map.
