How To: Create a Geosoft Polygon File (*.PLY).

Problem/Symptom:
How can I create Geosoft Polygon File (*.PLY)?

Environment:
Oasis montaj v7.0 and Target v7.0

Resolution
There numerous methods to creating a Polygon file. This article will cover a few of the most commonly used methods.

Method 1: Create an irregularly shaped PLY
1. Go to Map Tools | CAD Tools | Create Polygon PLY File.
2. Give the polygon a name, select inclusive or exclusive.
3. Draw the PLY file by left-clicking around the area you wish to create a polygon for.
4. When complete right-click and select Done.

Method 2: Create a Rectangular PLY File
1. Go to Map Tools | CAD Tools | Create Rectangular PLY File.
2. Give the polygon a name, select Inclusive or exclusive.
3. Rectangular polygon files can be created by manually enter in Min/Max X,Y coordinates or it can be created Interactively by pressing the Interactive button.

Method 3: Create a PLY file from an existing Group.
1. Go to Map Tools | CAD Tools | Create PLY File from Map Group.
2. Select an existing vector group on the map. e.g grid outline, shapefile file, boundary DXF, etc.
3. Give the Output polygon a name and press OK.

NOTE: Inclusive polygons define areas to be included in the mask. Exclusive polygons define areas to be excluded from the mask.

NOTE: Polygon files will not be automatically displayed once created. To display a PLY file go to Map Tools | Draw PLY File.
