These error messages can vary, but a few examples:

  • "sHandleErrorHTTP[28702] Error [Server refused request withouth length(411)] accessing URL "

  • "sRegisterProviderErrorADOCON[30001]. Ado provider error - error 1 of 1; Error number; -2147217887; Error description multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done; Source Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server; SQL Satae; (null); NativeError; 0."

Basically, any error message similar to these when trying to park or retrieve a license via the internet.

Environment:
This problem and resolution applies to any version of Oasis montaj, Target, or Target for ArcGIS. Occurs when users are trying to park or retrieve a license off the internet. Similar problems are not seen when using the Email or Offline license options.

Clients who are working on a machine (or network connection) with a firewall (or proxy server) receive such errors.

Resolution:

Internet Settings:
This is usually the firewall or proxy server you are using that is causing the trouble, and not allowing you to access our server. In order to resolve the connection problems you need to change the internet settings for Geosoft.

Do this by going to Start > All Programs > Geosoft > Oasis Montaj (or Target or Target for ArcGIS) > License > Options. The settings are described below, get some help from your IT personal if need be.

HTTP Style: The two options here are Standard and Compliant. Standard is a GET command and Compliant is a POST; they are both transfer commands. GET means send me something, POST; I send you something, you send something back.

Try switching the HTTP Style. If it is currently set to Compliant, switch it to Standard. If it is currently set to Standard, switch it to Compliant. Try again.

Use Proxy: Set to Yes if you are using a proxy server, set no if you are not. You can also choose Windows. If Yes, you must specify the proxy address and Port; you can get this from your IT people or if this is a problem, you could look at the Internet Options in your browser. Go into the Connections Tab (Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Connections tab) and then into LAN settings. If you are using a proxy, it will be activated and the information will be in the dialog. The proxy address can be an IP Address, Resolve name or URL (i.e. 189.101.185.19 ; tech.au ; proxy.geosoft.com). The port is where the proxy server listens for incoming communications.

One more thing to check in Internet Explorer: Are both the HTTP 1.1 options in Internet Explorer (Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab) checked ON?

That being said, users in the past have changed the HTTP style, and set the use proxy to Windows, and then have been able to park/install their license fine.

If this doesn't work for you there are other options, you can try the Email option or you can contact Geosoft Technical Support and we can send you an offline license key.

Root Cause:
Your computer is not connecting to the Geosoft License Server for because of firewall or proxy settings.
