How To: Export grids to a ArcGIS friendly format
Symptom/Problem:
User wants to export a grid created in Geosoft (*.grd) to a format they can use in ArcGIS software.
Environment:
Oasis montaj and Target 6.4.* and 7.0; ArcView 9.0, 9.1, and 9.2.
Resolution:
1) You can use Geosoft's Plugin for ArcGIS to view *.grd files. This software works in conjunction with ArcGIS and will allow you to view the *.grd files you create in Oasis montaj. The software is a free download from the Geosoft website at http://www.geosoft.com/pinfo/oasismontaj/free/plugins.asp.
Once you install the Plugin for ArcGIS, you can simply add *.grd files to any Layer in ArcGIS using the Add Data function.
2) Another option is to export the grid as an *.flt to open in ArcView:
Once you have created a *.grd in Oasis montaj you can convert the grid to an ArcView Binary Raster format (*.flt) and export this file. To do so, go to Grid | Utility | Copy/Convert (in both v6.4.2 and v7.0) and choose *.flt as the output format for the grid. Once the grid has been converted to the *.flt format, you must once again convert the file, using the "Float to Raster" tool in ArcToolbox (Conversion Tools | To Raster | Float to Raster). The resulting file can now be added to ArcView using the "Add Data" button.
