How To: Open old workspace files (*.gws) in newer versions of Geosoft

Problem/Symptom:
I have old Geosoft workspace files (*.gws). Can they still be opened in the newer versions (6.* and 7.*) of Geosoft?

Environment:
GWS workspace files are from old versions (v5.* and older). Applies to new versions of Oasis Montaj and Target (v6.* and v7.*).

Resolution:
On the Open Project dialog (File|Project|Open) select File of Type as Workspaces (*.gws) and when asked if you want to convert the old workspace into a new Oasis montaj project file, select Yes. The workspace file will be converted to a project file and all associated workspace information will be transferred to the new project file. In addition, the workspace file will remain untouched so that it can be opened in previous versions.

Root Cause:
Project files (*.gpf) have replaced workspace files (*.gws) in Oasis montaj. Workspace files used in Oasis montaj prior to version 6 can be easily converted to Project files simply by opening them.
