About this Release
Target 8.3 is a scheduled software upgrade available to all maintained customers. In this release, we added a number new features based on customer feedback to provide you with more streamlined workflows throughout the software.
While wireframing, you can change the density of the nodes in an interpretation to create smoother interpretations. If you edit or delete a section map interpretation, the adjacent segments are adjusted or reconnected seamlessly to remove any potential gaps.
How to update
Online installs for each product are available through the Check for updates option within the software and from the download link at the top of this page. If you require a DVD copy of the software, you can request one here.
Target 8.3 requires Windows 7 SP1 (recommended) (32 or 64 bit), Windows 8 (32 or 64 bit), or Windows 8.1 operating system. See detailed System Requirements
Optimized Voxel and Grid math drop-down lists
Voxel and Grid math tool drop-down lists now update quickly even with many grids or voxels in the list.
Set default display for new voxels
Choose whether or not to display newly created Voxels by default in the global settings. You can use this setting to hide the voxels if you are concerned about your workspace getting overcrowded with Voxels.
New Open Project Dashboard
Flip vertical axis in the database profile window
Depending on the type of survey data you are working with, you may want to view the vertical Z axis with the increasing positive values going up (elevation) or down (depth). This new feature enables you to flip the profile view in either direction without changing the actual data values in the database.

Organize groups into folders
3D Viewer opens with groups expanded only to second-level node
The 3D Viewer will always reopen with data groups expanded only to the second-level node. This avoids having to collapse expanded data groups with many nodes. The 3D tree and the Attributes tab will each occupy 50 percent of the space along the left-hand panel.
Create a section without drillhole data
Array Channel selection list
When choosing channels to convert to an array channel tool, the channels in the selection list are now sorted by the order in which they were entered, with most the recent entries first. Previously, the list was sorted alphabetically.
Copy array channel properties
Most of the array channels in a database share common properties. Copy the base properties from an array to other channels with a single click.
Edit node density of a geostring in the 3D Viewer
A new Interpretations Editing mode enables you to create smoother-looking interpretations by increasing or decreasing the density of the nodes in an interpretation. Select the interpretations you want to edit and then click the Edit Interpretations icon on the 3D Viewer toolbar. You can preview the changes in the 3D Viewer before applying them to the geostring file.
Changing the density of the nodes within an interpretation also enables you to connect complex interpretations that would otherwise cause errors in the wireframes.
Wireframe editing history
The wireframe history is now saved when you edit or delete an interpretation on a section map. If you edit an interpretation vertex, the wireframe updates to reflect the change. If you delete an interpretation, the adjoining interpretations are reconnected without a gap. Delete the last interpretation in a segment, and the end cap is also removed.
Plot drillhole intersections on geosurfaces and grids
Quickly calculate the locations where your drillholes intersect geosurfaces or grids and display the results in a database as part of your drillhole project. The results database shows the location and depth (X,Y,Z) of where each drillhole intersects the surfaces and grids in your project.
You can then plot the intersection locations on a 2D or 3D map and see if your planned holes intersect a target.
Flexible fence diagram scaling
You can now scale the fence diagram to only display the area of interest.
One-step Maxwell DataShed Drillhole Import
If updates are made to the Maxwell DataShed data, you can quickly refresh your drillhole projects with the changes.
Pan option in the Hole Selection Tool
In the Hole Selection Tool, use the pan button to move around the plan view window and see your entire map without changing the zoom level. Click the hand icon or use the Spacebar shortcut key to enter pan mode. Hold the left mouse button down while dragging the hand cursor to pan. Right-click to exit pan mode.
Prefix option for Map name tag
When creating a plan map, section, stacked Section, fence diagram or strip log you can specify a prefix for the Map name tag. This prefix will be added to the start of the file name for the *.map and any auxiliary files that are created as well. You save time by not having to manually rename all the related files for a drillhole project map and it also helps to group and sort files when viewing them in Windows Explorer.
Create a closed isosurface
When creating one or more isosurfaces from a Voxel, you now have the option to also create a closed surface shell around the voxel based on a specified surface value. Both the true isosurface and the closed surface are added to the 3D Viewer tree but the closed surface is hidden by default. You can use the closed surfaces as a Voxel Math input to clip a voxel to the outside of a closed surface or to clip a voxel to the inside of a closed surface. The attributes tab in the 3D Viewer will indicates if the selected surface in the 3D Objects tree is open or closed.
Multi-select for GOCAD TSurf import
In the 3D Viewer, you can now save time by importing several GOCAD surfaces at once, so you don't need to import each file separately.
Universal metadata tool
The metadata dialog is no longer specific to a particular data type. When you access the metadata dialog from a menu, it is pre-populated with the most recent files of that type, but if you want to access another data type, you can use the same dialog.
Use Windows proxy settings
The proxy server options were removed from the General and Advanced settings in your Geosoft application. You can now use the Windows system proxy settings for all Geosoft applications.
Data-linking in Standards and Duplicates reports
You can now click a point in the Standards or Duplicates report and see the same point selected in the Standards or Duplicates database. The report allows you to easily see which samples fail and to quickly identify the corresponding point and sample ID in the database as part of your control point analysis.
Survey Design tool updates
The Survey Design tool includes a number of updates to provide you with more control over your maps. When using a polygon file (*.ply) in Oasis montaj or a shapefile in Geochemistry for ArcGIS, you can specify that the starting point for the first sample in the survey uses a round number. This provides you with more control over the coordinates that are added to the output database and makes it easier for field crew to work with coordinates they need to go to in the field. You can also specify the line increment and set up the line numbers to match the line spacing. You also have the ability to exclude QA/QC samples for Geophysical surveys which don't require them.
Log option for assay channels
A new simple tool enables you to log transform all, displayed or selected assay channels faster and more easily that using the previous channel math method. The transform options are natural log or log base 10.
Enhancements and Maintenance Fixes
|Improved Map View Group Manager tool with significant enhancements, from being able to create groups of map layers and re-order them, move maps in/out of them and have their state (expanded vs. closed) be remembered, among many other enhancements.|
