Customized Metadata Management Toolset

Teck Cominco is a diverse mining company and a world leader in the production of zinc and metallurgical coal. Their growth and success has generated many challenges—a major one being an enormous increase in the amount of geoscience data being generated by Teck Cominco.

Geosoft was engaged by Teck Cominco to deploy a global exploration IT solution, which included a customized Metadata Management Solution. A unique Metadata schema was developed with the key stakeholders of Teck Cominco to form the core architecture of the Metadata database, Editor tool, and interface. The solution has been deployed globally at 10 of their offices.

Automated On Demand Map Generation

Segemar is responsible for creating hardcopy 1:250,000 scale geophysical maps. There are 247 maps in the 1:250,000 scale map series. Pre-printing the maps is expensive as the number of maps the public require for each map sheet is an unknown and as new data is acquired, the printed maps are rendered obsolete. Segemar contracted Geosoft Custom Solutions to provide a solution. They required a professional quality map product that could contain any number of different geophysical datasets. They also required that the map creation process be simple, straightforward and very easy to use. Geosoft Custom Solutions developed an on demand map creation tool. The menu was simple to use as it only required the selection of the desired map sheet and the desired data sets.

UXO Detection QA/QC

The objective of this project was to develop and test innovative RDT&E analysis, discrimination and QA/QC tools for UXO detection in support of SERDP/ESTCP and the USACE (Huntsville Center).

The selection of UXO targets is based on the recognition of distinct anomalies in magnetic and/or electromagnetic data sets. Current standard practice for determining the quality assurance and quality control of UXO targets is not well defined.

This development of core technologies allowed QA/QC methodologies to be implemented. The outcome of this development has become the basis of a new standard practice for UXO QA/QC for the USACE.

Customized Geophysical Data Processing Software

Geosoft Inc. was awarded a contract to fulfill the digital geophysical data processing software, customer/software support, and user training needs of the U.S. Geological Survey, Geological Division field and electrical geophysicists.

Geosoft's Custom Solutions group was responsible for designing and customizing the systems to meet specific USGS requirements. These requirements included developing Dynamic Access Technology (DAT's) for access to USGS ODDF and USGS Grid formats, formulating a strategy for the migration of existing USGS open file software into the GX environment, and delivering custom training courses at the Denver, Menlo Park and Reston offices.
