Target for ArcGIS version 1.0 must be uninstalled prior to installing Target for ArcGIS version 2.0. Use the Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel to uninstall Target for ArcGIS v1.0.
NOTE: Do not move the licence back to the RED licence disk as it is required to verify the Activation Code for Target for ArcGIS version 2.0. Refer to directions below for installing your new version.
New Users of Target for ArcGIS v.2.0
Insert the Target for ArcGIS version 2.0 into CD drive. The installation will start up automatically. If it does not start, Run the Setup.exe command on the CD. Follow the prompted instructions. An electronic licence key is required to run Target for ArcGIS version 2.0. If you do not have an e-licence key, contact your Geosoft Technical Support Center. To install the licence Key, from the Windows Start menu, select Programs/Geosoft/Target for ArcGIS/License and then click Setup.
New in Target for ArcGIS 2.0
Target for ArcGIS 2.0 is a major upgrade release that brings first Target for ArcGIS release up-to-date with the current Oasis montaj 6.1 technology. This release addresses many bug fixes as well as a redesign of the workflow and integration into ArcMap.
- Target for ArcGIS 2.0 has replaced the Red Disk licensing technology with a new electronic licensing (eLicensing) model. Licenses will be handled by the Geosoft license server and may be moved between machines online, or via email or disk where necessary. New license options under Geosoft Setup->License on the Geosoft Toolbar enable you to manage your license:
- Show computer ID – Displays computer ID
- View license – Displays users license
- Update license – Enables license to be updated from license server
- Park license – Enables license to be parked on server, and then retrieved later
- Transfer license – Enables license to be transferred to a different computer ID
- Lock License – Enable license to be locked on the current computer
- Unlock License – Enables license to be unlocked from the computer using the 'License key'
- Please note the new license agreement, which specifically spells out the 1 user, 1 license concept of our licenses. The user is prompted when retrieving the license to confirm that the user holding the license is the person downloading it.
- Data linking was fixed and improved by being able to view Geosoft databases side-by-side or bottom-over-top by dragging the tabs. This eliminates the need for the "Geosoft Info Window" that was present in version 1.0.
- 3D Shape files export of drill-hole projects that can be used in ArcScene.
- Shape file generation of sections from jobs for inclusion in plan data frames.
- A new "Populate from channel" button has been added to the Rock Codes (and the new Structure Codes) editor GUIs. This creates a list of all unique items in a given channel for use in populating a rock codes or structure codes file.
- Text bands are now case sensitive (wild cards are still acceptable)
- New ODBC Import
- New project refresh capability provides a single-step method for re-importing an entire Target project in one go, with the option to overwrite or append/merge to the existing databases
- Drillhole import now enables the merging of data from contiguous from-to intervals
- Added surface import from Acquire ODBC sources into shape files.
- Ability to import any Geosoft database as shape file(s).
- Ability to open Geosoft databases and use gridding directly on these databases.
- Search/Replace on Geosoft databases and expression utility GXs.
- The QAQC tool now reports for each database unregistered holes - that is, lines in the databases which do not correspond to any entry in the collar table. It now will also report missing From-To intervals at the top and bottom of holes.
- Group/Line naming convention changed: Individual lines (tables) in databases are named using the hole name by itself, instead of attaching the database assay or survey "type" name. For instance, before, for the "Tutorial_Assay.gdb", you had lines named "DD001.Assay", "DD002.Assay". Now you just have DD001 and DD002. The previous tags were redundant. Old databases should work just fine.
- Channel names in Strip Logs: In Strip Logs, the channel "labels" are now used by default for identifying the traces, both in the plot and in the legend. Normally, the channel label is the same as the channel name, but in cases where data was imported from an external source, you can have "As (%)" transformed to "As___". Normally, the original name is preserved in the Label. If no label is defined, it defaults back to the channel name
- When importing using the XLS/ODBC import, you can now specify a dummy value. This is a "global" dummy, not channel-specific. Any values matching this dummy will be replaced on import by the Geosoft dummy.
- Gridding from tables in MxD now supports fields in table joins and relates.
- Gridding of Z and M values from point feature data sources.
- Bar graphs and profiles can now be filled with zone-coloured fill, with the colour zones being determined by any channel (not necessarily the one being plotted as a bar or profile)
- Improved interoperability of Geosoft projections and projections inside ArcGIS. Projections have been added to various output files (e.g. .prj files with shape files) where possible.
- Transparency can now be applied to quick-map layers using the effects toolbar.
- Improved output logic of plotting functions by grouping shape and raster layers and improved naming convention of these layers.
- It is now possible to place grids in plan maps for both plan and section generation.
- Where needed (e.g. with vertical exaggeration) exaggerated shape files and warped grids will be generated to be able to align all layers (Quick map and data) properly. These files and layers are indicated by a clear naming convention that indicates the process applied.
- A new "Strip Positioning" tab has been added to the Strip Log tabbed dialog to let the user vary the distance between traces in a strip log map. Four different options are available: Equal spacing (the current and default option), Fixed spacing (where the distance between successive traces is specified), Proportional spacing (where spacing expands or contracts based on the entered values and the available space), and Fixed offsets (where the user specifies the exact location of each trace w.r.t the left side of the plot). Each of these options can be "fine-tuned" using a "Nudge" value that is added or subtracted from the calculated locations. This tab is nifty, with bitmaps that change with the selection to explain what each option means.
- Fracture Density Plots (strip logs): These are Rose-Plot type diagrams which sum up structural direction data for various depth interval selections down a hole.
- Stereonet Plots (strip logs, plan maps). These plot both dip and dip-direction data using a stereographic projection. Both "Wulff net" (equal angle) and "Schmidt net" (equal area) plots are offered. Plotted points can be coloured using the new structure codes file. In the plan map, the stereonets are plotted one per hole, for the entire hole, the current slice thickness, or a selected thickness and elevation. An overplot protection scheme has been implemented to prevent the plots from hiding collar locations, labels or other stereonets.
- The azimuth diagram in Plan maps always showed an arrow pointing vertically, and NSEW labels. Now, if a projected coordinate system is defined, the true geographic north is calculated and displayed, not just grid north. In the absence of a PCS, the original behaviour (North vertically up) remains.
- Option for Plan Map to plot secondary grid without the primary grid. No border rectangle was being plotted.
- Added Load and Save buttons for warp files to the Plan map secondary grid reference points section.
- Displaying images to angled sections made simpler. For angled sections, it has been difficult to register and display externally created images. This is because the "X" axis for angled sections has no independent origin. Previously, the angled section view made X=0 correspond to the left side of the plot, and in order to correctly register an externally created grid, it was necessary to reset the external grid's origin so that its X=0 location placed it at the same location. Finding that location in terms of true (East, North) was not entirely trivial, as it changes depending on the scale and width of the plot.
- Plotting grids and images to angled sections (i.e. sections not running N-S or E-N) has been made simpler. In angled sections the along-section coordinate X=0 location been modified to be the center of the section view. This location is exactly the location specified in the GUI as the section location, so no calculation is necessary to determine which (East, North) location corresponds to the origin. Now it is only necessary to know the distance "D" between the section center location (which you know) and the grid origin location (which you should also know). Next, modify the grid header so that the X origin is at "-D", and the grid will plot correctly
- Up to three topography profiles can now be specified in section plots. This is useful in open pits, where the 3 could refer to original surface, current surface, and planned (final) surface.
- In the strip log "Page layout" tab, added a "From-To" option to the Map Scale options to let you plot a strip log over a given From-To interval.
- The minimum border in plots was reduced from 1.0 cm to 0.1 cm.
- Structural ticks, tadpole plots etc can now be coloured based on values in a given text channel, and a structure codes file, which is similar to a rock-codes file, but has only colours, not patterns.
- Optionally, the vertical scale can now be printed to Strip Log legends.
- A new DHSELCOLLAR.GX has been added which allows you to select holes based on values in a collar table channel. For instance you might have a collar table channel named "Type" with various text labels. The GX lists all the available values, and the two-panel selection tool can be used to select any number of them. Any holes corresponding to these values are then selected, with the usual Append/New options for the selections.
- The DHDELHOLES.GX has been upgraded, by the addition of "Selected Holes" and "Select from list" to the drop-down list which lists the hole names.
- A new DHCLEARMASK.GX has been added to create/reset a mask channel throughout all assay from-to and point databases in a drill project.
- The new DHSELELECTPLY.GX allows the selection of holes based on a polygon (SHP) file. This is useful for claims boundaries, etc. Append/New options are included.
- The new DHSUBSETPROJ.GX allows a user to create a subset drill project, using selected holes, or holes selected from the two-panel selection tool.
- Select holes using polygon(s) in shape file.
