This release includes new and upgraded geophysical software applications and tools as well as new geochemical and geological software products.

Exploration Geology (Target) Application

Target is a Mineral Exploration Application specifically designed for the project or  field geologist who is required to process and present standard, high volume surface and drillhole data. This application includes the complete Wholeplot application as well as the complete package of surface mapping capabilities.

Chimera DPA Application

Chimera DPA is a mineral exploration software application specifically designed for the geoscientist who needs to process, analyze and map high volume geochemical data. This application includes all Chimera capabilities, except for the QA/QC tools.

Chimera QA/QC Tool

Chimera QA/QC is an add-on product for the Oasis montaj™ software platform that provides geoscientists with quality control and quality assurance tools for verifying high volume geochemical data. This tool includes the Chimera QA/QC capabilities.

acQuire

Oasis montaj has added the ability to import both point and drillhole data directly from an acQuire database into a Geosoft database.

This is the first phase in our ongoing project to better integrate Oasis montaj and acQuire. Some of the integration projects currently in development are:

1.)  Create a QC import verification module for acQuire-Oasis montaj users.

2.)  Create an acQuire to *.GDB export which would be launched from acQuire.

3.)  Bundle the acQuire software onto our Oasis montaj CD.

New Geophysical Statistics Toolkit

The new Geophysical Statistics Toolkit provides geoscientists with a range of statistical tools for working with high volume geophysical data including:

  • summary and advanced statistics

  • histogram analysis

  •  scatter analysis

  • triplot analysis

  • classify by code or map group

  • create subset database

New Target picking capabilities added to Geophysics Application

Two new target-picking capabilities have been added to the Geophysics application. The new Pick anomalies option, located on the X-Utility menu, enables the users to pick anomalies from one or multiple channels based on the channel values and the amplitude of the troughs on either side of the anomaly in the channel profile. The target results will be stored in a new “targets” line using the actual values of the input channel or with alphabetical or numerical numbering.

The Select target option, located on the profile window popup menu, enables individual targets to be picked directly from the profile window. The selected targets are appended to the “targets” line and, optionally, can be plotted simultaneously to the current map using user-defined symbols.

New Interactiv IP 3D Capabilities

Interactiv IP now provides the ability to create 3D views of your stacked pseudo-sections. This one step process enables you to view the individual sections as they are oriented in real (3D) space. The IP3DVIEW GX is found under the IP menu as "Create 3D view in stacked section map...".

New Spectral Filter Builder for the MAGMAP 2D-FFT Tool

A new Interactive Spectral Filter Builder has been added to the MAGMAP 2D-FFT Tool. This new spectrum filtering process enables users to interactively modify selected filter parameters to obtain the best results for their data and instantly see the effect of the filter on the radially averaged power spectrum.

Interactive spectrum filtering can be used when working with the following filters; Bandpass, Butterworth, Cosine Roll-off, Gaussian Regional/Residual, Upward Continuation, Downward Continuation, Vertical Derivative and Vertical Integration filters.

The inital power spectrum, the final power spectrum, the filter coefficients due to the currently selected filter and the filter coefficients of the combined filter are displayed, and are continuously updated as the individual filter parameters are varied, either using slider controls or directly input numeric values.

GridKnit Upgrade

With the release of Oasis montaj 5.1.4, GridKnit now provides a Knit multiple grids together menu item that enables users to stitch up to 10 grids together (or up to 20 using a script) in a single operation. Other new features:

  • Specify the output cell size.

  • Trend removal: 2nd and 3rd order trends may now be removed. This is in addition to the previously available static (0 order) and slope (1st order).

  • Calculate the trend using overlapping edge points. This is in addition to the current "all points", "overlapping points", and "edge points" options.

  • Regional trend removal option. With the “to a regional grid” method, trend removal operations are performed  with respect to a regional grid. The maximum trend order may be specified, or adjusted automatically based on a fitting tolerance.

New 1D-FFT Gradient Inversion Filter

The new Gradient Inversion (Horizontal Integration) 1D-FFT Filter enables you to convert horizontal gradient channel values back to total field channel values.

New ER Mapper plugin add-on

The ER Mapper plugin add-on component enables users who have installed an ER Mapper plugin to access Geosoft map and grid files in third party applications.

For example, MapInfo users who have installed an ER Mapper plugin from the ER Mapper web site (http://www.ermapper.com/downloads/index2.htm) can access Geosoft grids (*.grd) and maps (*.map) directly from the MapImagery menu in MapInfo.

New with the release of Om5.1.4, to enable ER Mapper plugins to correctly identify Geosoft MAP (*.map) files, we create an associated GM (*.gm) file with every Geosoft MAP file created.

Other Advances:

TIN Gridding

A new linear interpolation method has been added to the existing Natural Neighbours interpolation method of creating a grid from a TIN (Triangular Irregular Network). In the linear interpolation method, each triangle in the TIN is interpolated using a flat surface. (See Grid | Gridding | Tinning | Grid using a TIN...).

Chimera

Members of the periodic table of elements are automatically assigned the "Assay" channel class so that they appear in various lists and drop-down menus. As of Om5.1.4, the user can now create there own additional list of names to be recognized as assays (such as oxides). Read the instructions contained in the "assaylist.csv" file found in your oasismontaj\etc directory.

Wholeplot and IP Section plot annotations.

Annotations to a section plot can now be exported to a DXF file and re-imported to a new section plot with the same section location and orientation. Select and export the annotations using the "selection" option in the map export tool. Users should be sure to make the "Section" view the current "data" view before re-importing the annotations.

Airborne QC

Mulitple-polygon boundaries are now supported. When calculating mis-ties using the INTERSCT GX, intersections need no longer be re-calculated every time; instead intersections can be saved to a table and re-used. For large surveys this can result in the process running up to 60 times faster.

3D Tool

A new "3DCon" tab has been added to the 3D Tool. This tab allows the user to adjust the rendering resolution in the 3D tool, as in some views labels may not be legible at the default resolution. Increasing the resolution should be done with caution, however, as the rendering process makes heavy use of the available memory on video cards, and performance will take a bit hit if the limits are exceeded.

Opening Maps

The "open map" dialog has been converted to allow multiple selections, for those times when you want to open many maps at once.

Bugs Fixed in Om5.1.4

30 ER Mapper:  Image has transparent black cells when displayed using GRIDIMG1 GX, but looks fine when displayed with the ers plugin using GRIDIMG GX.  The ER Mapper reader for ERS files handles dummies incorrectly. Fixed in 5.1.4.
119 Airborne QC: Upgraded  tool to support multi-polygon boundary for QC_utility.
188 3D Tool: The 'create a 3d view' option may overwrite the 'data' view.  Now Only existing 3D views are listed when a user is prompted to enter a new 3D view.  This prevents users from selecting and overwriting an existing 2D view.
234 Mapping Tools: Abort when tried to edit a flight path group on a map <<  hCreat_MGROUP >>
251 Airborne QC: Enhancement to Airbourne QC tool while calculating misties.  INTERSCT GX now takes as input a previously created table. Original intersection creation is now 50% faster, and using previously created table is 60 times faster
256 ER Mapper: Error while packing a MAP with an ERMapper ALG grid. "Unable to access information about the grid: <xxx.alg>"  We have added support for packing ERS and ALG files in maps. They may grow to be very large however.
259 ER Mapper: Can't change default grid element type when default grid format is set to Ermapper; Oasis montaj settings.
298 Contouring: Abort while contouring with contcon.gx << sFontAngle_MVIEW >>
312 3D Tool: Abort closing 3D Tool << sOpenChange_SMETA >> This happened if you edited a value in the 3D tool and then before moving to any other window you closed the tool.
317 ER Mapper: cannot create ER Mapper grids (*.ers) in 5.1.2 with XP Pro from certain datasets that will open in ER Mapper 6.2.  added ability to work with RAW coordinates.
326 NLFILT GX: If you run NLFILT.GX under certain circumstances and have the "report all errors" setting on the conditions in which the error message occurs is incorrect.
327  ER Mapper : Plugin TIFF Import error :"Unable to access information about..." TIF and TFW files.  We now support the ability to see ER mapper plugin's as grid files as well as just plug-ins. This means  you can copy/convert from a ER Mapper Algorithm or TIFF into a Geosoft color grid.
333 ASCII import TIME_2 import format gives incorrect data after import; impasc.gx, imparc.gx
339 RANGRID GX: Abort in rangrid << lLineVV_GDBRLN >>
340 ER Mapper: the copy/convert of a geosoft grd  (v5.1.2) to an ers was not working.  v4.3 of Oasis is able to convert the grd to the ers with no problem
342 LOOKUP2 GX: Cannot match the id channel. Only exact x,y's result in any matches. The original data must have been input using a binary import, with the result that values in the database were stored with tiny amounts of numeric noise, and an exact match failed. The algorithm now allows for a tiny amount of error.
344 ER Mapper: Getting error after creating ers data files that ER Mapper 6.2 will not open due to error ''Image histogram calculation failed: image top left coordinate greater than the bottom right coordinate''
346 Wholeplot: If you have loaded multiple profiles on leaving the default name of PROFILE_{name} and then use the planholes.gx it will erase the profiles from the views. The same map group names were used for two different purposes, the hole profiles and the data profiles. They are now unique.
358 Grid Copy: Abort trying to Copy/convert an (admittedly huge) .grd to LandmarkZmap << sXGDToXGDIMG >> The grid was too large to load into a pager and so it failed and crashed. The fixed version will now report that there is not enough room to load the grid.
362 Abort (Destr_BF) reinstalling license.
369 GDB ASCII Export: when channel width is not wide enough for the numbers to appear (ie. get **) the export only exports the asterisks as well.  This is the intended behaviour.  Added a warning message (for both truncated strings and values) to let the user know when truncation has occurred, along with an explanation of how to fix the problem.
370 ODBC Import: Error in v5.1.2 using IMPODBC.gx; ADO provider error.
371 Interactiv IP: Abort in ippsplot.gx  << hGethAP_PG >>
374 Warping/ reprojecting an image file (Geotif) results in black where there should be white. Writing to a TIF. If dummies were written they were always black and not the default dummy color.
375  <geosoft> syntax works for the Install directory work in PDF and CON files.
381 Compudrape: Abort using Compudrape << pBindFunc_GXX >> There
is a limitation for number of continuation levels.
397 UXdetect: The uxyeuler.gx cannot see target lines that have been made using gridpeak.gx.  the items in the output line list are now restricted to random-type lines.
405 GDB Export: can't export a database to an Access97 mdb from a Geosoft gdb. It automatically is converted to an Access2000 mdb and cannot be opened in Accesss 97.  In version 5.1.4 the user will be able to choose between Access 97 and 2000 formatted output.
409 Mapping abort: Ellipse objects with one minor axis of zero radius causes Abort (sEllipseEx_MVIEW). Fixed by drawing a line instead.
410 Map to PLT: Shift in position of postings when converting map to PLT. Problem with Below centred Post Location.
411 GDB Export to XYZ: Line numbers (type = Random)  are not included in the export, even if that option is indicated in the template.
415 Contouring: The log contour (logcont.gx) does not work correctly for the decades only or for the other options. In the drop-down list the 'decades-only' option did not actually define a contour interval, but left the parameter blank. This should have defaulted to 1 as the contour interval, but for some reason no longer did.
418 Trended Gridding: Abort using trend enforcement gridding (trenddb.gx) ; sUnCrossTrends_TRND; Due to setting 'Allowable deviation' to 90 degrees.
437 Euler3D: Missing equations in the Euler 3D PDF file.
439 ASCII Import:  Time is in HHMMSS, but doesn't import properly.
445 Chimera: The  Chimera assay import was setting any channel's class which was defined to be something other than Assay to nothing even when labelled as "Sample"
447 Random Gridding: In minimum curvature gridding (rangrid.gx) include in the advanced parameters box the Edge Clip parameter that is available in the control file.
448 Chimera: Added a pick list to choose the channel class in Chimera channel attributes.  Blank, ASSAY, MASK... etc.
450 CHCLSYMB GX: In the classified colour symbol plot, edge colour picking doesn't work.  It is always black.
451 Mapping Tools: When you recreate a legend and overwrite the group, the group is no longer movable as it was when created the first time.
457 GX Developer: FORTRAN example not exporting to DLL
462 Wholeplot: Polynomial fit resurveying method causes strange hole traces.
463 UX-Detect: abort <<exminus >> in offset correction script using UXLAG. The spline function should have checked for dummies in the Y data, but did not.  The abort has been replaced with an error message ' cannot spline data with dummies'
466 Wholeplot: When creating a new project and not importing data before closing the project: upon reopening, error: "There are no Wholeplot projects in the current working directory".
467 Wholeplot:   Abort when exporting to a csv file with dhexpcsv.gx. << sExportTable_DH >> Created when you deselect all but one drill hole in either one of the databases or all of them then export.
468 Wholeplot:  Abort: created a new project, imported the collar data, created a new hole and then tried to delete the new hole.  << sGetAssociatedChans_DB >>
470 Wholeplot: Abort (hCreat_PGG)  Trying to reset/reload a test project, after reloading the collar data from a csv, it failed to plot the wells data as a QC check, then crashing.
477 MapInfo Import: Abort importing a MAPINFO TAB file << CurveEx_MVIEW >> This tab file contained arc objects with invalid parameters - Xradius = 0, Yradius = 0, starting angle = 230, ending angle = 630.
484 BUG with upgrading software that has a hotfix on it
487 ER Mapper: Error reprojecting TIFF grid from AGD66 to GDA94: The ..\Geoid_AGD66.grd ER mapper file is missing the ByteOrder field.  Setting the default grid type to anything other than Geosoft, then attempting to work on a datum with an installed geoid correction grid (such as AGD94) caused an error attempting to open the geoid grid.
491 Chimera: The chappend.gx does not keep the current X and Y channels when merged to a master gdb for the first time.
493 WholePlot:   Abort when clicking the 'Options...' button in DHCOMPOSITE << DrawColor_GUI >>.  Occurred after an error in loading the default parameters for the plotting options.
495 Chimera: Using chimport.gx to import survey data with a Sample field of >16 characters chops the Sample number string and ignores the setting in the edited *.i3 file.
497 Database Math Expressions: Conditional operator not working properly when all data in single line selected
499 Contour: Abort while contouring << sFontAngle_MVIEW >>
502 Chimera: chstnrep.gx (Display standards) will create an error in Chimera if Displayed channels is selected for the channel to report.
503 Chimera: Bug with chimera mask channel. A newly created mask channel with all dummies will not be cleared with chclearmask.gx (Clear mask channel).  Have to have at least one value entered in the channel,  then the gx will clear then entire channel when executed.  The mask channel is now first re-fidded to the Sample channel before all values are reset to 1. All Chimera databases should have a 'Sample' channel.
504 Chimera: Legend bar for the Rose plot, bar plot and pie plot in Chimera does not get displayed on the map when these plots are executed. The user projection of the map was being set to the projection in the current X and Y channels - but for the legends this is not necessary (or correct).
505 Chimera: Abort NicerLogScale_GS in Chimera when setting the detection limit to 0 in the attributes in a duplicate database then displaying the duplicates as a log.
506 Wholeplot: on import of an XLS file, a user can receive in the dhimp.log file many lines of "overlapping interval [....] with previous [...].  In the imported database the DH_From and DH_To will have overlapping values at around the 15th decimal place. Added allowances for numeric noise in comparisons.
507 Abort << hCreat_ACTL >> using ACTL.gx to download a CSV file.
508 MagMap: Using the fft2prep.gx then the fft2in.gx, then applying the filter - the resulting data is shifted by a constant amount, by approx. the same value as the 'mean' of the data.  Results of UpCont Magmap filter are different after the first application.  Fixed a bug due to the deleting (IMG_FILE_NEW mode) GI file (carries the trend info) in hDestr_BASEIMG().
509 SEARCH GX: Does not find matches in Double format channels.
510 XYROTATE GX: Overwrites the backup x and y channels that already exist in the database from a previous execution such as xytrns.gx.
512 GRIDMASK GX: Grid masking will not work properly if you are masking a very small area of the grid using 5.1.3. Fixed in 5.1.4.
513 LOADPLOT GX: Abort importing a PLT file << ISize_PP >>
515 GRIDINFO GX: Grid info, [Stats], [Trend] tool does not give coefficients.
518 Menus: Change the Edit / Font menu item to Edit / Database font.
519 The NWT DAP point data does not set the class as 'assay' on download. This is causing some problems with users trying to use the Geochem tools on this dataset.
521 WARPDATA.GX bug - when warping data you cannot call the new x and y columns 'x' or 'y', if you do your old x column is deleted and no new 'x' and 'y' columns are created.
523 XYZIMPORT GX: Abnormal fiducial action when importing using xyz import. The import tool now has increased flexibility to import the proper fiducial. However, there is a limit on the resolution of fiducials.
529 EXPASEG GX: Abort Trying to save a database file into ASEG-GDF format  << sExpAsegHeaderDU >>
531 Wholeplot: Export from collar table to csv and back into a new project failed to pick up the azimuth and dip fields. The export simply wasn't set up to export the DH_DIP and DH_AZIMUTH channels. On the other hand it was exporting DH_EMIN, DH_EMAX, DH_NMIN, DH_NMAX. added the former, and removed the latter
532 Wholeplot: After a single 'Specified Hole' is plotted in the strip log tool and is then recreated using the right-click on the map and 'Recreate Striplog' is used, the Strip Log Parameter Holes to Plot defaults to Selected Holes. This means all holes selected at the time in the project are plotted, not just the individual strip log that is being worked on.
535 Mapping: You can now open multiple maps at the same time using the ctrl+ key.
538 UX-Detect. Follow the Manual, and using the right mouse, click "tools" on a profile  in the GDB. The Target selection options are set and then the the right click, Select UXO target is chosen uxdigitprof.gx). This gives an error: PutChanVV_DB: Invalid Channel Handle Lock
539 Mapping Tools: Colour Bars Refresh Bug - does not work with colour-shaded grid
549 Interactiv IP: IP Abort << lFindGlobResource_GXX >> in the process of generating pseudosections which included inverted data & topo.
562 Wholeplot: - can post the values of a channel as text and not a profile
573 Interactiv IP: Descrepancy in IPcaused by an uninitialized variable. The station locations appear to have been calculated using the (Closest Rx + Tx)/2 convention, but the current default setting for creating pseudo-sections (Under IP defaults - Pole-Dipole) is the Zonge convention (Rx Midpoint + Tx)/2. resulting in a difference of 25.  the IPSYN and RESSYN channels are dummies after the inversion as well. Now we store the setting for the station calculation for Pole-Dipole surveys inside each line.
576 Wholeplot 3D: Unable to add surface view groups to 3d view of section data.  We now support clipping regions for each plane and their own projections as well.
593 Abort exiting Oasis montaj Memory Leak in MapInfo import << hCreat_MA; hCreat_VV >>
622 Unable to display grid generated from Zonge IP inversion: error Unable to define the X, Y region for the projection. The projection parameters may be invalid.  The way that the grid orientation is stored in a grid has been changed for 5.1.4, and as of that version the section grids created in IP (and also in Wholeplot) can now be imported to a new map.
628 Wholeplot: Displaying grid. The grid name has 34 characters in it, and getting error  that maximum 31 characters allowed.
632 Wholeplot: The text bands for the wholeplot sections not working correctly. Cannot change side on hole.
638 NEWCHAN GX: Error when running a script from a BAT file << CreateSymbEx_DB : Invalid Channel ArraySize  The current X channel does not exist in database >> The 'array size' parameter was added in 5.1.3, but no default value was set or checked for, so when run from a script the array size was dummy, and the create channel function failed.
649 Chimera: Principle Component -incomplete correlation printout
650 PLOTPROFILE GX: Bad LogLinear Scale and annotations.
