FAQ

Can I reduce the size of my database (GDB)?

To reduce the GDB size for Oasis montaj, Target, and Target for ArcGIS:

  1. Select Database > Save Database As.
  2. To reduce the overall file size, select Database > Maintenance > Defragment to reduce the file size.

Notes on Target and Oasis montaj:
If the procedure above does not help, check the Database Properties (Database > Properties). The More tab displays how many lines and channels out of the allotment are actually being used.

The more lines and channels a GDB has (set when you create the GDB), the larger the GDB is. If these lines and channels are not being used, there is a lot of unused space in the GDB. Removing the unused lines and channels reduces the GDB size, however, the number of lines and channels in GDB can only be modified when creating a new GDB. You can export the current GDB to XYZ or CSV, then create a new GDB with 10-20 lines and channels and re-import the data. The new GDB will be much smaller.

Notes on Target for ArcGIS:
You can only create GDB by importing DH data. You cannot set the number of lines and channels in a GDB, unless you have grown the GDB through Geosoft Data > Maintenance > Grow.

If you imported the DH data regularly, you should not have many unused lines and channels.
