While engaged on a geological excursion in Bretagne last year, Jorma Palmén Chief Geologist for Pöyry Environment Oy was introduced to this 'face of a rock' site. Jorma explains that when confronted with the challenge of not being allowed or able to conduct bedrock sampling with available equipment geologists often have to judge the outcrops by studying the bedrock face, as was the case here.

Jorma is head geologist for Pöyry Environment Ltd. In Finland. In their work, they use Oasis montaj software for geophysical processing and interpretations, and also to tie together various geophysical indicators with features of structural geology and GIS in exploration and rock construction projects. "We apply several application platforms from drillhole data management to map and borehole interpretations and seismic processing; and manage the results, features and objects in GIS and in 3D with mining and design software. We also develop our own software. Oasis montaj is an integral link in this multidisciplinary work."

NRCan magnetic data easily accessed within Oasis montaj, Target or Dapple

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) continues to enlarge its Geoscience Data Repository DAP server. Along with the country wide compilations, thousands of individual survey grids and profile data are now available. They recently joined with Geoscience BC to announce the release of new high-resolution airborne geophysical magnetic data for the Jennings River area (NTS 104 0) in northern British Columbia. The new Jennings River data, and all the publicly available data, including Aeromagnetic, Radiometric, Gravity, and Geochemistry data, in NRCan's Geoscience Data Repository can be easily accessed and viewed within Oasis montaj, Target or using the Dapple globe viewer. Oasis montaj users can access this great data source by adding http://gdrdap.agg.nrcan.gc.ca as a server in the DAP Find data dialog box. Geosoft announces availability of 2007 software release for Oasis montaj, Target and Target for ArcGIS

Geosoft recently announced the availability of its 2007 software release, which includes release 6.4 of the Oasis montaj earth mapping system and Target exploration geology software for Windows, and the 2.2 release of Target for ArcGIS subsurface geology software for ESRI's ArcGIS. Menu redesign improves workflow in Geosoft’s UXO software

With the 2007 software release, the menus within Geosoft’s UXO extension software for Oasis montaj have been redesigned to support a more intuitive, streamlined workflow for UXO projects. The new menu system combines both the UX-Detect and the UX-Process (previously named USACE DoD QA/QC) menus within one integrated solution. To maximize productivity in preparing, processing and managing UXO targets — and to minimize the possibility of error — there are fewer steps, and each step flows seamlessly. The software now includes three distinct menus that guide you through the software:
