IGM announces launch of Oasis interface for GeoExpress

In February, 2004, IGM announced that its new Oasis Interface would be launched in the next release of GeoExpress (along with new interfaces to Surfer & EarthVision) currently scheduled for early March to coincide with the PDAC. This is a major addition to the functionality of GeoExpress as it opens up the availability to both read Oasis datasets straight into GeoExpress without having to separately manage the data in a separate database plus GeoExpress can write modified or selected data values back to an Oasis database for use by other software.

Geosoft’s OASIS database provides an efficient storage for geoscientific point, line, drill holes, and 2D grids. GeoExpress is able to directly select subsets of OASIS data sets and present them visually in 3D space. For example 2D grids which can represent slices through a 3D volume can be automatically volume rendered. Alternatively the 3D volume gridding of GeoExpress can be applied to any of the data. No data channel is excluded from the GeoExpress reader. Even the multi component OASIS array channels used for data such as structural geology measurements, EM multi time data sets, or tensor gravity measurements are accessible. These are easily selected and displayed as multi component vectors or other graphics objects such as variable ellipse in the GeoExpress viewer.

Other GeoExpress features include the ability to open multiple databases in the same view. This provides an ideal method for simultaneously importing different Geosoft drill hole data. As well as the excellent graphics the numerical values remain accessible for data selection and further processing. GeoExpress can then write these modified or selected data values back to an OASIS database for use by other software. For more information visit the IGM website at www.geoexpress.co.uk.
