Press ReleaseGeosoft previews the next generation of its Oasis montaj and Target exploration software at PDAC 2006Geosoft innovations include the addition of SEMplot diamond exploration functionality to its Geochemistry extension software and a subsurface 3D viewer in its Target for ArcGISMarch 5, 2006 – Toronto, Ontario – Geosoft, a leading provider of software solutions for the geosciences industry, is showcasing the next generation of its Oasis montaj mapping and processing system and its Target exploration geology software at this year’s Prospector’s and Developer’s Association of Canada (PDAC) International Convention in Toronto on March 5-8. Geosoft’s booth at the PDAC is number 407. Highlights include the first commercial release of SEMplot (Scanning Electron Microscopy) geochemistry functionality for diamond exploration in Oasis montaj as well as a robust subsurface 3D visualization tool in Target for ArcGIS that allows users to integrate all their data into one 3D GIS environment. New SEMplot geochemistry workflow in Geochemistry softwareSEMplot provides geoscientists with a proven kimberlite indicator minerals workflow. It is standard practice in diamond exploration to gain critical information about the diamond potential of a region by interpreting the type, abundance and composition of kimberlite indicator minerals. Rio Tinto Exploration, a world leader in finding, mining and processing the earth's mineral resources, originally developed SEMplot, and has used it within its Geosoft software environment for the past five years to refine target selection for diamond exploration. “The proven kimberlite indicator minerals workflow developed by Rio Tinto is now commercially available as part of our Geochemistry extension for our industry-standard Oasis montaj and Target software applications,” said Louis Racic, Geosoft's Industry Product Manager. “SEMplot’s simple-to-use workflow enables geoscientists to efficiently visualize geochemical data obtained from surface and kimberlite rock samples, thereby accelerating potential diamond target definition.” Among its features, SEMplot allows geoscientists to efficiently determine mineral identification of grains based on their geochemical stoichiometry. Once they have identified the grain, they can plot it correctly. They can choose to display selected mineral grains on standard published discriminating graphs, or graphs and overlays they have created themselves. They can also interactively select and reclassify the samples. In addition, diamond explorationists can use the software’s built-in capabilities to dynamically link between and among samples, maps, graphs and data. This ensures maintenance of the spatial context between grain graphs, databases and maps, and makes anomaly location and target selection quicker and more efficient. Sub-surface 3D viewer for Target for ArcGISGeosoft’s major enhancement of a sub-surface 3D viewer in Target for ArcGIS will enable geologists to quickly visualize surfaces, drill holes, sections, grids, geophysical models and voxels – in 3D – within ESRI’s ArcView environment. A critically-important addition to the advanced 2D mapping tools already available in Target for ArcGIS, this update will make 3D visualization the standard for day-to-day analysis of multidisciplinary data. “Geosoft has responded to the global need for a cost-effective software tool with the processing power and speed to meet the performance challenge of manipulating large volumes of surface and subsurface geochemistry, geophysics and geology data, in 3D, within a single interactive environment,” said Mr. Racic. Available worldwide, Geosoft software supports a range of exploration industry applications and users, including geologists and exploration managers. Racic will also be presenting on SEMplot as part of the Geosoft@PDAC forum on March 6 and March 7. On March 6, 2006, Natalie Green, Geosoft Technical Resource Manager, joined by Karen Li of ESRI Canada, will present “Exploring with ArcGIS: Delivering meaningful results,” as part of the Geosoft@PDAC Forum. Geosoft@PDAC, an exploration software solutions forum built around the theme ‘Earth Data Discovery and Exploration without Limits,’ will be featured at PDAC March 5-7, 2005. It will include workshops by a roster of technical and industry experts informed by Geosoft’s 20 years of experience in applying computer expertise to earth sciences exploration. The workshops feature practical software demonstrations and previews of new Geosoft software, as well as strategies for exploration data management. Registration is open and complimentary.
