Press ReleaseGeosoft adds SRTM data to Geosoft DAP public serverSeptember 14, 2005 – Toronto, Ontario - Geosoft Incorporated, a leading provider of spatial data access and analysis solutions, announced today that it has added the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) data sets to the Geosoft DAP public server. Elevation data for the entire world (oceans excluded) is available at a 90 metre resolution, and elevation data for the United States is available at 30 metre resolution. "This really highlights the power of Geosoft DAP to efficiently access large volume data," said Ian MacLeod, Chief Technologist at Geosoft Inc. "The SRTM 30 metre data grid alone contains over 114 billion points," he added. SRTM data is available on the Geosoft DAP public server and can be viewed and downloaded using a variety of clients including Geosoft Oasis montaj, ESRI ArcGIS, MapInfo Professional and browser applications. ArcGIS and MapInfo require a Geosoft plug-in that is available from Geosoft at http://www.geosoft.com/pinfo/oasismontaj/free/plugins.asp. The Geosoft DAP public server can be accessed at: http://www.geosoft.com/pinfo/dap/trydap.asp More about SRTM dataDuring an 11-day mission in February of 2000, the SRTM obtained elevation data on a near-global scale to generate the most complete high-resolution digital topographic database of Earth. SRTM consisted of a specially modified radar system that flew onboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour. SRTM is an international project spearheaded by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
