Press ReleasePreview of Upcoming Software Developments at PDAC 2005
March 14, 2005 - Toronto, ON - Geosoft previewed upcoming developments in its upcoming releases of Oasis montaj™ mapping software and Target geology software at the 2005 PDAC International Convention held in Toronto, Canada. Oasis montaj 6.2 and Target 6.2 are scheduled for release in May, 2005. The releases will feature major software enhancements, including 3D voxel visualization, support of common mine planning system formats and Unicode™ multi-language support. "Geosoft has enhanced its three dimensional visualization technology in response to the growing requirements within mineral exploration to represent and visualize surface and subsurface 3D data," said Louis Racic, Geosoft's Global Technology Officer. "Geosoft's increased support for mine planning data formats addresses the exploration market's requirement for improved data flow from exploration through to pre-feasibility and mine planning environments. 3D Voxel VisualizationIn Oasis montaj version 6.2 voxel format support will enable users to import and display UBC and GOCAD voxel formats in 3D views; and to generate Geosoft format voxel from any 3D dataset, including drilling, for display in 3D environment. Datasets are generated via a 3D kriging algorithm, with control over variography. Generation of voxels in a 3D environment allows a user to better visualize and interpret their exploration data. Support for Common Mine Planning FormatsWith version 6.2 Oasis montaj will provide support for Surpac string and dtm file formats and 3D DXF format – this includes display ability in 3D, plan and section of string files and DXF, display of dtm and DXF in 3D and plan views and "slicing" of dtm files in section views (ie Oasis montaj will interpret Surpac dtm as surface). Support also includes the writing of Surpac string and 3D DXF files from interpretations generated on section and plan views. Over the next few releases, the number of supported formats will be extended to encompass the breadth of common mine planning software formats in use by the mining and exploration industry. Unicode Multi-Language SupportUnicode character support will enable Geosoft Oasis montaj users to display different language character sets within the application environments (file names, map layers, dialog box entries, database text strings, etc) and print to maps in foreign languages such as Portuguese, Spanish, French, Japanese, Chinese, Russian and Arabic. Users will be able to display plan, sections and strip logs, as well as Geosoft databases data, in native language character sets. New PRAGA-3 Radiometric Processing ExtensionWith the release of 6.2, Geosoft will also introduce a new montaj plus extension for Radiometric Processing. The extension is based on Pico-Radiation-Air-to-Ground-Algorithm (PRAGA3), a feature-rich software package for airborne and ground gamma-ray spectrometry data processing software that was developed by Pico Envirotec Inc. and Spectronica. The software will be available as a new montaj Plus extension in May, 2005 About GeosoftGeosoft's commitment to software innovation for the geosciences dates back to the company's inception in 1986.
