Press ReleaseGM-SYS upgrade with Oasis montaj 5.1.7Toronto, Canada, April 16, 2003 - GM-SYS® developed by Northwest Geophysical Associates, Inc. (NGA) for the Oasis montaj software platform, is a program for calculating the gravity and magnetic response from a geologic model. GM-SYS provides an easy-to-use interface for interactively creating and manipulating models to fit observed gravity and/or magnetic data. Calculated responses change instantaneously as you change the model, speeding the interpretation process and enabling you to quickly test alternative solutions. This release includes the following changes and improvements: Expanded Well support
Enhanced printing
Improved Links with Geosoft's Oasis montaj
Expanded Well supportGM-SYS now supports two types of well information; GM-SYS well markers, and LAS Well files. Each may be assigned X and Y coordinates relative to the to the profile origin in order to properly display the well symbols in the Plan View. You may choose well symbols from a predefined set of symbols to mark the well location in the Cross Section and the Plan View. Las Well filesGM-SYS imports LAS Well files that conform to the v1.2 and v2.0 standard. You may load multiple well files and configure each one independently. Each Well file may be independently toggled on/off and configured to display one or two Well curves. You may configure the line weight, colour, log, scale and range. Enhanced PrintingExtensive changes have been made "under the hood" in the printer drivers to provide cleaner, higher-resolution plot output and better compatibility with other software. This release includes a switch from raster to vector patterns, and a complete overhaul of the Postscript® driver to handle vector patterns and layering. In addition, a Seismic Bitmap images will be plotted at their native resolution, or at the output resolution, whichever is lower. Vector PatternsGM-SYS now uses Geosoft-style vector patterns for display and printing. The available patterns are defined in Geosoft's "default.pat", supplemented with additional patterns stored in "user.pat". A copy of "default.pat" will be installed with GM-SYS if you don't have Oasis montaj installed. Patterns are mapped into the forty pattern cells in the GM-SYS Examine Block dialog by "gmwin.pmp. Cells, which are not mapped to a vector pattern, will use the old-style raster patterns. Users may add patterns to "user.pat", following the guidelines at the beginning of the file, and change "gmwin.pmp to replace one or more of the existing patterns with a new one. If you have Oasis montaj installed on your system, "user.pat" may be stored in "\Oasismontaj\User\etc\" and the patterns will be available to both GM-SYS and Oasis montaj. The use of vector patterns in GM-SYS provides the following benefits:
Note: In GM-SYS models, patterns are assigned to blocks via a pattern ID between 0 and 39, matching the forty pattern cells in the Examine Block dialog. If you change the pattern mapping in "gmwin.pmp", this will change the patterns for all models. Postscript changesSeasoned users will appreciate the updated Postscript driver, which generates predominantly vector-Postscript, which is easily imported into graphics applications like Adobe® Illustrator® and Corel DRAW®. The Postscript output is organized into "layers" compatible with Adobe Illustrator, enabling GM-SYS to produce cleaner, more modular plot files. Each model element (e.g. symbol file, an individual block) is represented by a separate layer for easy selection and editing. The Seismic Bitmap, if loaded, is the lowermost layer. Improved Links with Oasis montajGM-SYS includes a suite of GXs for integration with Geosoft's Oasis montaj. These GXs accessible from "gmsys.omn", the Oasis montaj menu file for GM-SYS. Changes in this release include: gmsprof.gx - updated to use all of the projection information in the map and grids used. The "Distance Units" entry in the dialog has been changed to "Vertical Distance Units", which are the only ones that can't be reliably extracted from the grids. gmsmark.gx - updated to use all of the projection information in the source database. gmsdata.gx - a new GX for plotting the location of a model profile (a line) or model data (symbols) on a map. The extents plotted are based on a selected View stored in the model, or user-specified coordinates. gmsanom.gx - a new GX that enables you to add data components to an existing model by extracting data from grids. This effectively overwrites the MAG and /or GRV file for a model. If projection information is not stored within the model ECS file (@SECTION-Geosoft Projections), this GX will assume that the model projection is the same as the projection of the first grid used, and will update the projection information in the ECS file. nga_ungrid.dll - a new DLL containing some of the functionality used by "gmsprof.gx" and "gmsanom.gx" for extracting data from grids.
