Multiple Views into
Your Drilling Projects
Target is geology software for visualising, analysing and managing your drilling projects. With Target you can sharpen your understanding of underlying subsurface geology, and verify assumptions, to increase the value of your drilling investment, and improve prospecting and discovery results. Target is also available as an extension for ArcGIS.
Target provides a complete solution for exploration geology, enabling you to visualise and manage drilling projects for mineral exploration and other subsurface investigations. Using Target you can effectively visualise thousands of drillholes, and conduct integrated analysis of surface and subsurface geochemistry, geophysics, and geology data within a single, interactive 3D environment.
With Target, you can:
- Process large volumes of drillhole data and validate your data, identifying and correcting discrepancies between different types of data.
- Visualise your surface and subsurface data by creating plan maps, profiles, sections, fence diagrams and borehole (strip) logs. View surface maps, subsurface drillhole traces, sections, voxels and ore bodies (isosurfaces) in 3D.
- Conduct integrated analysis of geology, geophysics, geochemistry, GIS data, satellite imagery and more to enhance subsurface insight.
- Generate and easily update maps and reports using templates and automated tools, to make daily targeting and drill decisions.
- Import and work with more than 50 supported data types and formats including CAD, GIS, mine planning and modelling.
- Share results and information more efficiently via visually rich e-maps, 3D PDFs and Map Snapshots that bookmark areas of interest.

Oasis montaj and Target are now 64-bit applications. As 64-bit applications, they are now able to access to all available memory on your system, providing more efficient processing, improved performance, and the ability to create and work with much larger databases, voxels, and grids.
A new digitization workflow for creating geological interpretations
A new streamlined workflow makes it easy to digitize geological interpretations on section and plan maps. Polygon features can be used to represent individual rock units, alteration or mineralization zones, while polyline features can be used to draw faults or contact surfaces.
A single geostring file can contain a number of interpretations stored as geological features. Using a single geostring file to store all the interpretations for a drillhole project makes it easy to manage your interpretations and share them with others.

Improved snapping for new digitization workflow
When digitizing, you can now snap to the true X, Y, Z drillhole data locations, or to the points that are projected on the section plane. This provides you with more flexibility and control when digitizing interpretations, which leads to more realistic and accurate interpretations.Watch the video
Build wireframes from section interpretations
Geosoft provides an easy-to-use wireframing interface that enables you to build 3D subsurface geological models by joining section and plan map interpretations stored in Geosoft string files. Simply click on the features you want to include and a wireframe model is created from the shapes. Polygon features form closed surfaces or bodies and polyline features create open surfaces. Flat, conical or rounded ends can be used to close the open ends of a wireframed polygon feature.
After saving the wireframe to a Geosoft surface (geosurface) file, the total surface area is reported for open surfaces and total volume is reported for closed bodies. Closed geosurfaces can be used in voxel math expressions to clip voxels or to create constraints to use in inversions. Collaborate on 3D modelling projects by sharing the interpretations as Geosoft string files or the wireframing results as Geosoft geosurface files.Watch the video
Voxel math expressions using closed 3D geosurfaces
You can now use closed 3D surfaces from wireframing as variables in voxel math expressions, enabling you to clip voxels to the inner or outer edges of a 3D surface.
There are a number of ways you can use this functionality. For example, you can clip voxels to a closed surface to calculate an average grade within a specific rock unit or you can assign a constant value to the voxel cells inside or outside the closed surface, which makes it much easier to create constraints for VOXI.Watch the video
Add 3D Vector files to Section and Plan Maps
You can now include 3D shapefiles and 3D DXF files while generating a section map in Target or Target for ArcGIS. This enables you to add 3D vector files (such as ore body wire frames and open pit outlines from mine planning packages) to section maps, plan maps and level plan slices. The imported 3D files appear in the correct location on your 2D section map. The 3D DXF file is clipped to the thickness of the section map (only the portion which exists inside the section is visible) while the entire 3D shapefile is projected onto the centre slice of the section.
Drag and drop layers from Geosoft Maps to the 3D Viewer
Now you can drag and drop any map group (or multiple selected groups) from a Geosoft Map to the 3D Viewer. This enables you to quickly display interpretations drawn on section maps within the 3D View. All the section map groups will appear in their correct geospatial orientation in the 3D view.
