Oasis montaj 8.2
In this release, we added new features and streamlined workflows to make working with grids, arrays, databases, and voxels an even faster and more efficient experience.
A new grid display tool enables you to preview colour ramps, add shadows, reverse the colour distribution, control the brightness, and add a custom colour legend bar. The wireframing workflow now includes the ability to merge geostrings, edit geostring and geosurface coordinate systems. Sampling increments can now be stored within an array channel, making array operations faster while reducing both the array database size and potential errors.
An expanded suite of voxel tools adds the ability to extract surfaces from a voxel that are parallel to a defined datum. The vector voxel tools add the ability for you to change the projection, window, inspect properties, adjust the transparency, and use math formulas with vector voxels.
Updates to Oasis montaj extensions
GM-SYS 3D includes new calculations that provide faster and more accurate results and new support for closed 3D surfaces. MAGMAP adds a new streamlined Differential Reduction to the Pole (DRTP) filter. In VOXI Earth Modelling, you can now automatically generate drillhole constraints for a VOXI document. The drillhole extensions adds the ability to refresh a drillhole project from an acQuire database.

Extract parallel surfaces from voxel
You can extract and inspect the geophysical or geological properties from a voxel along a series of non-constant parallel datums. The master datum would typically be a topography or geologic structure grid.
New options for the voxel fill tool
You can now select the order in which each cardinal axis of a voxel is filled to more accurately represent the general geological structure. For example, when filling a horizontal layered earth model, you would interpolate horizontally layer by layer. All permutations are supported.
Support for additional vector voxel operations
The voxel tools now support additional vector voxel operations including the ability to change the projection, window, inspect the properties, or adjust the transparency of a vector voxel.
New 64-bit support
On a 64-bit system, Geosoft desktop applications, including Oasis montaj and Target, are now aware of and will use the full 4 GB of RAM provided by the operating system, instead of the 2 GB limit for 32 bit applications. This access to additional memory improves our ability to work with larger files
New database shortcut keys
We've added some new keyboard shortcuts to help you work more efficiently with databases. You can save the changes to a database by simply pressing CTRL+S. You can cut (CTRL+X), copy (CTRL+C), and paste (CTRL+V) channel math formulae to and from the database formula bar located along the bottom of the current database. This handy option allows you to easily transfer a very long and complex equation that you have already built to a different channel and reuse or edit it.
New DXF import options for 2D maps
New AutoCAD DXF importer provides all the controls for importing and displaying one or many DXF files on a 2D map. Plot the DXF layers to a new or existing map as a either a single group or as multiple groups. You can use the existing DXF file colours or pick a new colour for all the lines and polygons. When creating a new map you can specify the map name, scale, and the projection type (plan view, E-W section view, N-S section view).
Rename files in Project Explorer
You can now rename any grids, voxels, databases, or maps that are loaded in your Oasis montaj project directly from the Project Explorer pane. Click on the file to select it, then click again or press F2 and type the new name. Oasis montaj is aware of the file structure and will also rename all the associated files as well.
Section surroundOasis montaj recognizes if a grid is in plan or section view, and then displays the appropriate surrounds tool. The section surround tool applies georeferenced annotations, recognizes the vertical exaggeration, and plots a plan index view of the section trace.
Embed increment information into an array database channel
When recording geophysical array data, the properties (depth, elevation, time, frequency or velocity) are normally set by the instrument and use the same increment for all data points. If this is the case, the increment information for the array can now be stored in the channel itself instead of having to be stored in a separate channel. Embedding the information in the array channel saves disk space and computation time while making your data more concise and minimizing the potential for error.
Pack and unpack array increment information in the data array header
To ensure for all types of array data, we offer the ability to pack (embed) sampling increment information from a property channel into the data array header or conversely, to extract a property from the information packed in an array channel. These two options provide compatibility for both the old (separate property channel) and new (packed in header) formats.
Tools that act on data arrays have been modified to be aware of how the increment information is stored, and act accordingly. A separate increment array channel will continue to be supported to honour uneven increment spacing among data points.
Sampling increment information in data arrays
We've made it simpler to work with array channels in your database. The sampling increment information for a data array can now be packed into data array itself so you do not need a separate property channel in the database in order to specify the array increments.
You can pack sampling increment information from a property channel into the data array header or conversely, extract a property array from the information packed in a data array. These two options provide compatibility for working with both the old (separate property channel) and new (packed in header) formats.
All of the tools in Oasis montaj that work with array data will recognize if the sampling inforation is stored in the array data or not and adjust accordingly.
View Array Channel profiles on true property axis
The ability to embed increment information in arrays means that you can now toggle the display of the horizontal axis of an array between a simple indexed presentation and a true horizontal view, which provides a more realistic view of the array profile.
Improved DXF import in 3D Viewer
You can now import multiple AutoCAD DXF files into a 3D view at once. In addition to importing the DXF files as map groups, you can create a new geosurface using the imported DXF files or add to an existing geosurface file.
Improved GOCAD T-Surface import in 3D Viewer
When importing a GOCAD T-Surface file into the 3D Viewer, you can now import the GOCAD file to a new geosurface, append it to an existing one, or use the previous option to import as map groups in the 3D View. You can also specify whether to invert the Z-axis.

Colour legend bar
You can now access all the vertical and horizontal colour legend bar display options from a single tool. In addition to annotating the colour bar at colour breaks, you can now also annotate the bar using your own specified increments. You can access this tool directly or through the new colour grid display tool.
Display a map in a rotated coordinate system
You can now display data with a rotated coordinate system on a map. The ability to specify a rotation angle is particularly useful in cases where you want to display a specific trend such as the predominant geologic structure. If the coordinate system of a grid is rotated, you can either plot it in a rotated coordinate system with its Y axis along the rotation angle or as before with its Y axis along Northing.
New colour grid display options

- All the colour ramps now include a preview so you can see the colours before displaying your grid.
- Colour ramps are organized into logical groups such as geophysics, topography, heat maps, and favourites so you can select quickly colours based on the type of data you want to present.
- Quickly flip the colour ramp distribution.
- Easily set and adjust the brightness.
- Choose an un-interpolated colour display.
- Apply an optional shadow effect.
- Trigger the colour legend tool to add a colour legend bar.

Updates for Oasis montaj Extensions
Improved vector slicing for drillhole sections and plans
In addition to slicing a DXF or shapefile, you now have the ability to slice a geosurface in section or plan view. This makes it easy to review a geosurface you've created with the wireframing tools by viewing it from different orientations. You can select multiple vector files and have the option to edit the colour and fill attributes for lines and polygons.
Refresh an acQuire drillhole project
You can now refresh a drillhole project from an acQuire database. When refreshing the data, you have the option to overwrite the drillhole databases or append new drillholes to the project. This enables you to easily refresh your drillhole projects while preserving the existing configuration of any custom data fields.
Forward Gravity Calculation for Draped Surveys
A new gravity calculation method provides more accurate results. This enables you to work on draped surveys without upward continuation and take advantage of the full resolving power of your surveys.
Support for closed 3D surfaces in GM-SYS 3D models
Using closed 3D surfaces, you may represent arbitrarily-shaped bodies of any complexity in the models. More accurately represent geologic units that aren't easily represented by subhorizontal grids, such as convoluted and discontinuous allochthonous salt, dikes & plutons, or cave systems.
Improved the Differential Reduction to the Pole filter in MAGMAP
Now when using the Differential Reduction to the Pole (DRTP) filter in MAGMAP, you only need to provide the date of the survey. The inclination and declination grids used by the filter are automatically calculated in the background and saved for future use.
Added the drillhole constraints builder to VOXI
You can now build a set of 2 VOXI constraints automatically by leveraging the geophysical properties of the drillhole. Although in the past you could create these constraints using the 3D math tool, it was labour-intensive and prone to errors. If you know the geophysical property along drillhole path, you can now introduce it in VOXI and have it control the inversion. The constraint builder will create the constraints and load them into the VOXI document.
