Geosoft DAP Server Technology
Geosoft DAP Server fits into a service-oriented architecture (SOA) and provides services to catalog, manage, deliver and visualize large, spatial earth data.
Cataloguing
Geosoft DAP server can catalog and maintain several hundred thousand data sets. Geosoft DAP can catalog data stored on organized file systems in many common formats (grids, images, raw data, and file documents), metadata stored in RDBMS systems, spatial data stored in certain RDBMS systems (such as acQuire and ArcSDE), and data stored within corporate archiving systems.
Publishing
Data is published through Geosoft DAP via a file system and can be organized in a way that makes sense to the data publisher. Publishing services include metadata viewing, graphical data viewing, data extraction and data catalog queries. Data extraction provides for transfer of all or windowed parts of the data at an optimal resolution, in any format and in any coordinate system. Geosoft HyperStore allows administrators to publish certain performance-sensitive data as a "hyper-store", which is optimized to support high-performance windowing and extraction for very large datasets.
Search and Discovery
Geosoft DAP enables efficient search and discovery of data, regardless of source. You can search for data by area of interest, data type, and metadata to determine the value of each dataset for a particular use. Before downloading your selected datasets, you can quickly preview the content to make sure it’s what you need. Users can retrieve your data from anywhere in the world, and share it. Data retrieved from your DAP servers can be windowed to the area of interest, re-projected to an appropriate coordinate system, sampled to an appropriate scale, and instantly transformed into your application. This includes simple retrieval of documents and reports that support the data, which can be viewed in their native formats such as .doc and .pdf files.
Data Delivery
Geosoft DAP server utilizes TASK streaming technology to efficiently deliver large, geospatial data sets. It provides the ability to extract, window, translate, compress and stream data to multiple clients. While repository technologies typically require high-bandwidth access to the data stores, Geosoft DAP’s compression and streaming uses standard HTTP to enable data access over low-bandwidth connections. It provides encryption and Active Directory support for secure data transfer and permissions that enable further security.
Software Connectivity
As a middleware server technology, Geosoft DAP connects disparate data storage and management systems, and creates value by handling tasks like data cataloguing, managing and maintaining metadata to support effective and standards based user access to data.
Geosoft provides integration solutions for leading data storage applications, such as acQuire. Custom integration solutions provide seamless connectivity with enterprise GIS systems and other applications.
Web Client and Application Support
Geosoft DAP supports any web client application, such as an ArcIMS client through Geosoft XML, or a MapServer application through OGC compliant WMS and Geosoft XML. The "thick" clients such as Oasis montaj, ArcGIS, and MapInfo can be supported through free plug-ins that uses the high performance TASK protocol. Almost any data retrieval experience can be created through a .NET development that takes advantage of the Geosoft open GX Developer environment.
Data Support
Geosoft DAP server is able to efficiently catalog and deliver a broad range of data file types, including very large geospatial grids, 3D voxels, images and vector data. View full list of supported data types.
Security and Administration
Geosoft DAP Administrator provides a comprehensive toolset for Data Managers to administer DAP servers and manage DAP data catalogs. Security features include support for Microsoft Active Directory. All data can be secured on a user or group level. Security can also be established on a file-by-file basis.
