Medgold selects Geosoft Target for exploration mapping and 3D geology
Medgold Resources, a Mediterranean-focused gold exploration company exploring the orogenic gold provinces of northwest Iberia, selected Geosoft Target as its software for exploration mapping and 3D geology.
The company is currently working to fully understand the geology and the controls on the mineralization of its Lagares project. At Lagares, Medgold is walking in the footsteps of at least 4 companies and 6 different drilling campaigns.
“We have compiled a drill hole database with 138 diamond holes and 307 roto percussion holes totaling just over 10,000m of drilling,” said Jim Royall, Exploration Manager for Medgold Resources. “Validating the data and bringing it to current international reporting standards is an early challenge we face.”
Project fit and immediate leverage for the company’s data-rich projects were important considerations in selecting their exploration software.
“Target is very intuitive and easy to learn,” says Royall “but the key is how well it integrates surface data and downhole drill data. With the wireframing features now incorporated, it’s also able to meet our 3D geology requirements.”
Focused on discovery, 2015 promises to be an important year for Medgold as the company carefully plans its drilling program to advance exploration at Lagares. “Our goal is not to drill more, but to drill sooner and more effectively” said Royall. “In this regard, Target will play a major role in the development of our geological model, and we expect to fully utilize its powerful data processing and analysis tools to optimize data interpretation."
In an interview with Earth Explorer, Royall, who has led exploration programs for companies in South America, Africa and Europe, shares his criteria for choosing exploration software.
