Uses and Abuses – Lessons from 25 years of exploration software development, deployment and support
By Ian MacLeod and Steve Randall of Geosoft.
- Over the past quarter century, the exploration industry has witnessed dramatic improvements in software-enabled capabilities for analyzing, visualizing
and interpreting the sub-surface to increase efficiency and reduce uncertainty in their discovery efforts. However, geoscientists continue to test the
limits of their computing power with the size and scale of their data and project requirements. As one of the first PC-based software companies to focus on
exploration workflows and productivity, Geosoft will share it’s 25 years of experience in this review of the milestones and missed opportunities that marked
the path to where we are today with exploration technology. We will also examine current trends, and emerging opportunities to connect, and explore more
efficiently, in the cloud via the internet, open technologies and web services.
