Join us for a hands-on VOXI workshop where you'll have the opportunity to follow along with Technical Analyst Darren Andrews. Basic principles of inversion will be explained and demonstrated followed by advanced uses of VOXI including the use of constraints as well as Magnetization Vector Inversion and Iterative Reweighting Inversion.

Who should attend

This workshop is intended for Geophysicists. Oasis montaj and VOXI Earth Modelling experience is not required but would be beneficial

  • Laptop computer with wifi capabilities
  • Oasis montaj 8.0 installed
  • Temporary Oasis montaj license can be provided on request.

Presentation: Introduction to Inversion with VOXI

  1. Data and models, forward modelling and inversion.
  2. Understanding how VOXI solves the inversion problem.
  3. Optimizing your inversions in VOXI: mesh design, data sampling, error assignment.
  4. Inverting residual vs. total response data in VOXI and background removal.
  5. Inverting gravity, magnetic, and gravity gradiometer data.
  6. Magnetization Vector Inversion (MVI) explained.

Hands On: Reinforcing Inversion with VOXI

A suite of datasets will be provided which the participants should invert with VOXI to reinforce the concepts outlined in the presentation.

Presentation: Advanced Inversion with VOXI

  1. Understanding non-uniqueness and constraints.
  2. Presenting the constraints implemented in VOXI by example,
    • Reference models
    • Weighting models
    • Parameter bounds
    • Active domains
    • Iterative reweighting (IRI)
  3. Building constraints in VOXI.
  4. Using drillhole based constraints in VOXI.
  5. Using weighting to explore the space of equivalent models.
  6. Combining inversions in VOXI: gravity, magnetics, EM.
