Booth 2213 New Technology Announcement: VALEM
Geosoft Chief Technologist, Ian MacLeod, will introduce important cost-saving advances in the interpretation of sub-salt structure from gravity data based on significant improvements to Geosoft's GM-SYS 3D gravity modelling platform and integrated Voxel-Assisted Layered Earth Modelling (VALEM), which is a cloud-based, high-performance inversion technology.

Full Tensor Migration
Full Tensor Migration is an inversion method that iteratively uses Potential Field Migration to steer the construction of a 3D array of density voxels.  Read more

Potential Field Migration is a method developed by Michael Zhdanov at the University of Utah that rapidly generates an estimate of source depth and shape from gravity gradient observations. Full Tensor Migration takes this output and assigns density values to these shapes by filling the 3D contours output by this process with source masses. This is done with reference to the data observations so as to find a best fit. The forward modeled result is subtracted from the input observations to yield a residual field.

Large surveys can be migrated relatively fast as an example of processing speed, a survey that is 90 km by 50 km, gridded at 1 km spacing takes 15 minutes per iteration. The processing time increase rapidly with the size of the model but even the largest surveys acquired by Bell Geospace can be inverted within a reasonable time frame (several hours per iteration). We expect these processing times to decrease dramatically as development of this algorithm proceeds.

Booth 2213 Integrating Grav/Mag with your seismic: Rapid creation of a 2D geological model constrained by seismic, potential field data, and well logs
We will show how to build 2D geological models integrating grav/mag profiles, magnetic depth solutions, well LAS data and seismic data. Emphasis will be placed on building a starting model, from which different hypothesis can be easily tested.
