Software Developer/Solution Architect

Job Summary

The Solution Architect/Software Developer will work initially with senior solution/system architects and eventually function independently to scope, design and develop customized Windows applications and data management solutions. S/he will be required to coordinate the technical activities through the life cycle of a project. S/he will also be a key player in implementing and supporting the core and customized solutions based on Geosoft's application and server technologies.

Job Responsibilities

30% Development of Solution Architecture

  • Meet customers to scope and design customer-focused solutions, including work-flow analysis, IT systems evaluation and preparation of proposals
  • Perform complex product design activities which may require extensive research and analysis
  • Participate in product design meetings internally and with customers
  • Maintain communication with R&D team to keep up to date on core DAP product directions
  • Coordinate project implementation plans internally and with customers
  • Maintain and continually develop knowledge of industry trends in the geosciences, Windows software development platforms and data management systems
  • Maintain knowledge of other 3rd party technologies (e.g. acQuire, ESRI) that complement our data management solution offerings

50% Development of Software Applications

  • Develop and maintain complex desktop and server applications using a variety of Windows platforms and tools
  • Conduct unit and integration testing for the benchmarking of functionality and limits
  • Use troubleshooting skills to be proactive in identifying new and existing issues
  • Develop deployment plans
  • Author user manuals and installation guides
  • Assess, troubleshoot, document, upgrade and develop maintenance procedures for custom developed software solutions
  • Work closely with development, project management & QA teams to satisfy client needs

20% Other Responsibilities

  • Provide implementation and system integration services at customer sites
  • Provide training on custom developed desktop applications and data management solutions to internal and on occasion, external users
  • Provide 2nd tier support through our Technical Support Representatives to internal and external customers

Other Job Information

This role requires a competent background in software development, and a proven record in designing and authoring desktop, client-server and web applications. Familiarity with a variety of platforms and tools is a strong asset.

This position may require up to 20% travel to customer sites and relevant conferences.

Job Qualifications

Education & Work Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or relevant post-secondary education in an earth sciences discipline is required
  • Minimum four years software development experience, with two to three years in developing .NET desktop, database and web applications
  • Experience in software design, testing and implementation
  • Experience in data and use case modeling
  • Experience in coordinating and leading projects from requirement analysis with customers to deployment

Knowledge and Technical Skills

  • Competence with Microsoft Visual Studio IDE, .NET Framework, C#, ASP.NET, XML, HTML and JavaScript required
  • Knowledge in IIS, SQL Server, and XP required
  • Strong understanding of the development lifecycle including specification, documentation and quality assurance required
  • Knowledge of Windows 2003 OS an asset
  • Knowledge or skills with C, C++ and Geosoft GX Developer an asset
  • Knowledge in MS Access and/or Oracle an asset
  • Knowledge with Geosoft Oasis montaj and DAP an asset
  • Knowledge in earth sciences, mineral exploration and/or GIS industry an asset
