What do you do at Geosoft?
Currently, I am working at Geosoft as a QA (Quality Assurance) Specialist with the Customer Response Group (CRG) team. The CRG team is responsible to address, fix and test customer reported defects. My role is to ensure that the fixes released to our customers meet the Geosoft standard of excellence.
What is unique about your role at Geosoft?
The QA team here is a talented pool of individuals and my role is unique from the rest of the team in terms how the CRG team operates. It's not a project based team, but a team focused on providing the best experience to our customers on a monthly basis. In my role as a QA Specialist I am required to have a broad understanding of the various roles to be able to understand how projects and their products are progressing and, as a result, provide feedback on practices or processes that could be improved. And, above all, inform the team about whether the product under development is what the customer wants.
What do you think potential employees should know about Geosoft?
Geosoft is great place to work. I feel a work place should be a place you enjoy coming to for a good portion of your time. Employers will say they have a great work life balance, but when you get there it's not the case. Geosoft stays true to their word. Family is a very important aspect of the culture at Geosoft and it definitely shows throughout the company. It's a place where we work together, play together and accomplish great things within the industry.
Why do you enjoy working at Geosoft?
It might sound like a broken record from all the profiles you read on this page, but only because it is true: Geosoft is a place where everyone works together and enjoys spending time together. Whether it be our yearly Gala, weekly golf outings in the summer, potlucks, poker tournaments, and Geosoft Days (just to name a few) we are always having a good time. I also really appreciate that Geosoft understands you have a life outside of work and helps out in any way possible to achieve a comfortable balance.
How does Geosoft compare to other employers you have had?
Every company I have worked for since I graduated was for a company with more than 10,000 employees. Although working for a large company has its pros, you just feel like a number. The only people you know are those within your immediate team and there is hardly any effort to bring employees together. I was hesitant to work for a smaller software company due to the horror stories you hear about long hours and no work life balance. I found Geosoft to be the complete opposite of that. The moment you step into Geosoft you feel a part of the family. When's the last time your CEO sat with you one on one to hear your concerns? You truly are a part of something bigger. Everyone knows everyone and with the help of one of the best HR teams you never feel afraid to come forward with concerns or ask for help, whether it's work related or not. It's important to speak up and not be afraid of judgment based on your opinions on a project or the way the company is heading, and within Geosoft I do not have those concerns.
Outside of working hours, where might we find you?
Having two young children I spend as much time with my family as possible. But aside from family I love sports. I love watching sports and I love playing sports, mainly hockey, volleyball, golf, baseball and soccer. I love technology and having the newest gadgets on the market. You can probably see me with a different smartphone every few months. If I'm not playing sports, or tinkering with gadgets you will most likely find me fixing up my car or watching a good movie.
