What do you do at Geosoft?
I work as a Technical Analyst in the Customer Services team. Our mandate is to make our customers successful by providing focused education, support and technical services. My role involves working closely with current and potential new customers, analyzing their technical needs and finding the best solutions for them. This includes high level training sessions, technical demos and building relationships with their technical specialists to ensure customer satisfaction.
What is unique about your role at Geosoft?
I get to travel a lot in my current role, especially up into Africa. Besides all the sightseeing I get to do, I work directly with our customers on their exploration projects. Seeing them make discoveries through utilizing our software is very gratifying and definitely an exciting place to be.
What do you think potential employees should know about Geosoft?
Geosoft truly has a desire to make a lasting, positive impact on the exploration industry, while at the same time creating an excellent work environment with a high emphasis on work-life balance. It’s like the saying goes, if you take care of your employees, they will take care of the customers.
What do you find most challenging about your position, and how do you tackle that challenge?
Since I’m in a customer-facing role and have to perform a significant amount of training on customers’ own data, I need to be familiar and comfortable with a variety of geophysical exploration methods, mineral deposits & geological settings as well as the latest exploration technology. This can be daunting at times, but I have learned to step outside my comfort zone and never stop learning and growing. Also, being part of a global team where everyone shares and supports happily and efficiently is a great help.
Why do you enjoy working at Geosoft?
As I’ve mentioned before, I get to travel quite a bit, which is really great. I love Africa, and experiencing new environments and cultures are very satisfying. Also being able to work on a vast range of exploration projects, helping customers to visualize, process and integrate all their data and make discoveries ensures that there is never a boring day at the office. Geosoft invests a great deal of time and effort in looking after their employees, this makes for an environment where I feel valued as part of a global team, thus motivating me to be better in my job. It’s a great environment to work in.
Outside of working hours, where might we find you?
Enjoying family time with my wife and two kids. I also love the outdoors, so on weekends you’ll find me mountain biking or exploring South Africa’s stunning hiking trials.
